A novel by Carla J. Harrod
The Lake Contract
A black comedy about love, power, and the prenup that sank a marriage.
Love. Property. And a bitter feud.
A whirlwind romance in Palm Beach. A marriage in the making. And a prenuptial agreement that turns love into a bitter feud.
For Sydney and the charming but controlling Victor, a villa on Lake Como, Italy becomes the critical point of the deal. As the battle over the prenup unfolds, mistrust begins to shape the marriage—and its tragic ending.
Several years after Victor’s death on the lake, Sydney, now widowed, recounts their story to Gabriella, her lifelong Italian friend. Told through flashbacks, The Lake Contract follows the romance, the negotiations, and the growing mistrust that binds them together.
Was Victor’s death an accident—or intentional? And what will Gabriella decide to do?
A black comedy and a fictionalized true story, in the vein of the 1989 film The War of the Roses.
